Hot Highlanders Anyone? #HistoricalRomance

Waving hello! I hope everyone’s doing okay in these trying times. Virginia’s in Phase II of reopening, so things are slowly but surely getting to the ‘new normal.’ Of course, I’m writing away with more releases this year than ever before.

While my MacLomain series nears its end, its ally the MacLauchlin clan is just launching. For those who might’ve missed it, I contracted my MacLauchlin series with Dragonblade Publishing over a year ago and am thrilled to announce Scoundrel’s Vengeance (Highlander’s Pact, Book 1) is now available for pre-order.

As many know from various MacLomain stories, the MacLauchlins haven’t had it easy over the years, and their struggles continue in this latest series. Nevertheless, like their ancestors and descendants (those from my Pirates of Britannia stories), they always supersede and find their ‘Happily Ever After.’ Please keep in mind, like the POB stories, this latest series is strictly historical romance.

If you’re interested in checking it out grab your specially priced pre-order copy here→

About the Story

Fionna has suffered the consequences of endless wars and plague, leaving her the unlikely laird of Clan Taylor. When her past love summons her to his keep under the threat of killing her clansmen he captured trying to steal horses, she has no choice but to meet him.

There she discovers a man much changed, heartless and bitter. Especially when he demands that Fionna help him get engaged to her best friend!

Unable to deny him, Fionna plays along, waiting for the right moment to strike, save her clansmen, and celebrate teaching Keenan the hardest lesson of his life.

But not everything is what it seems, and Keenan and Fionna discover that distance and time cannot change what their hearts truly want—each other.

Interview with Sir Hugh d'Arcy. The Princes Knighted.

Welcome back to A Writer’s Mind’s, END OF THE WEEK CHARACTER BLOWOUT! Yesterday I interviewed the heroine of THE PRINCES KNIGHTED, Sara of Bevelaire (scroll to the next post to read). Today I’m thrilled to interview her hero, Hugh d’Arcy.

GIVEAWAY! Author, Robin Danner, is graciously giving away an eCopy of THE PRINCES BOUND to one lucky commenter. Contest ends Sunday, January 20th, 12 PM EST.

Before we get started, let’s learn more about The Princes Knighted

Sir Hugh d’Arcy has returned from the battlefield to escort Sara, the princess of Noventia’s sister, to wed another. The mission is his duty, and his personal agony. Sara has never forgotten her love for the boy Hugh once was. When captured, a shocking revelation brings their love to life again. To save all he has sworn to protect, Hugh faces a devastating decision. Can Sara convince him her love is strong enough to overcome any obstacle?

Interview time!

SKY:  Tell us a little bit about you.

HUGH: I’m Hugh d’Arcy, a knight of Noventia and the nephew of the Queen of Isidor. My grandfather, Collin, is the chief advisor to the Noventian prince. I’ve been around the royal family since I was a baby. My father, Lance, died when I was young and my grandfather and aunt raised me. I joined the army at sixteen and was knighted at a mere eighteen. I’ve been busy fighting the rebellion for three years now.

SKY:   Remembering the moment you first laid eyes on Sara, what thoughts come to mind?

HUGH: At the time, I was frantic with worry over Rowena, my prince’s betrothed. I was assigned to protect Sara. She’d obviously been mistreated by the rebels and her face was battered and bruised. I’ve felt responsible for her safety ever since.

SKY:   She has one trait you adored from the start. What is it? Hands down, she appreciates one of your traits…what do you think that is?

HUGH: Sara seems so delicate, but you’d be surprised to learn that she’s actually quite fierce. She is also very stubborn. It’s an interesting mix. No doubt, she appreciates my loyalty to my prince, but knowing Sara she probably called me sweet or something equally trite.

SKY:  She has one trait you’d change if you could. What is it? You figure there’s probably a trait she might want to change about you… care to share?

HUGH: I wouldn’t change a thing about Sara. She’s absolutely perfect just the way she is. If I had to guess, I would say she’d change my determination. (She’ll probably call it stubbornness, but I beg to differ.)

SKY:  Ah, love is in the air. What is the single most romantic thing you’ve done for her?

HUGH: It probably won’t sound romantic, but I’ve watched her sleep. When we were captured, I stayed awake to make sure she was safe.

SKY:  She has a feature that draws your eye every time. Care to share? She can’t stare at you enough… but where is she staring? Now’s the time to gloat about your thick head of hair. *Sky sniggers* Truth! Do you think it’s your eyes? Chest? Etc.

HUGH: This isn’t not a manly response, but it would be her eyes. I could literally watch her face forever. (Hanging head) Did she really say my hair? I wouldn’t be surprised.

SKY:   How do you think Sara would answer the following…  Our favorite thing to do together is…?

HUGH: To keep this safe for children to read and because I know how Sara thinks, I will say that our favorite thing to do together is sit in the rose garden. When we were younger, she made me pick flowers all the time! Thankfully we now have new hobbies, but I won’t go into those here. ; )

SKY:  You and Sara don’t see eye to eye on what issue?

HUGH: We don’t see eye to eye at all! (She’s quite a bit shorter than me.) To be honest, we don’t agree on many things. Sara is idealistic, while I’m a realist. My life as a knight isn’t suited for a delicate girl like Sara.

SKY:   She said one thing to you that you’ll never forget. What was it?

HUGH: “I want to be with you, Hugh. Here, now. I will not watch you march off to war without knowing what it is like to be with you.”

SKY: Thanks so much for joining me today, Hugh. Great interview!

Check Out This Book Cover! Robin Danner's, The Princes Knighted.

Welcome to A Writer’s Mind’s, MONDAY COVERS IT blog feature. Today it’s my pleasure to welcome over author Robin Danner to share with us a little bit about the cover for her latest release, The Princes Knighted. So grab your favorite cuppa and enjoy another gorgeous book cover!

Let’s hear from Robin..

The Princes Knighted is the third book in my latest historical series (and one of the romantic I’ve written so far!) The hero, Hugh, is a knight and has been off to war for three years. His childhood friend, Sara, is about to be married to a duke and Hugh returns just in time to escort her to the home of her betrothed.

The cover was created by Lyn Taylor, an artist for Liquid Silver Books. I knew I wanted a blue dress for Sara since in one pivotal scene she is wearing that particular color. Lyn chose the perfect models for my cover and I couldn’t be more pleased! My hero, Hugh, appears in the first two books as well. We first met him as a seventeen year old, but he is twenty-one when he gets his own story in The Princes Knighted. Hugh faces devastating ordeals in this book, and I’m so glad that the model Lyn chose for him perfectly demonstrates that pain in his face. Sara is sweet and angelic, but with a backbone of steel.

I haven’t won any awards for this cover (that I know of, at least!) I’ve been blessed with three totally awesome covers for the entire series so far.

Like PRINT? Me too. The MacLomain Series goes Old School!

In this day and age of digital books I still relish print books and for that reason alone I'm making my MacLomain Series available in PRINT at the lowest prices I could manage. Going to print with these is 100% for my readers. I want you to have something you can add to your bookshelves. Something you can flip through and smell that wonderful book smell (you know what I'm talking about) That certain something that eReaders will never offer.

Designed by the fabulous Tamra Westberry, these covers are stunning from front to spine to back. Six by nine, they're the size of hardcovers! Each one is glistening, glossy and over 320 pages long with easy-to-read font. Forgive my cell phone picture. It doesn't capture the colors nearly as striking as they are!

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend! See you tomorrow when A Writer's Mind, .99 CENT EBOOK WINTER FESTIVAL continues.

Cheers,

The King's Druidess- BIG Kingly Delicious News!

Today, ALL DAY, The King's Druidess (The MacLomain Series- Prelude) is FREE at Amazon!!!

A little taste of what you can expect...

His rage was a thorough thing.

Erc tore his crown from his head and removed the cloak of his kingdom. He handed them to Cormac as he led her into the cover of an oak grove. The moon was no more so he flicked his wrist and drew forth his magi. Green flooded the tree trunks and the leaves overhead encaged them.

Beyond aggravated, he said, "Tell me, Druidess. What purpose do you serve here?"

She pulled her arm free. The tiny bells interwoven in her braids tinkled at the movement. "I serve you, my king."

He sat her on a wide log and paced. "No. You served me in the stones as was foretold. Why have you come for this celebration of mine in light of such a thing? What do you seek, Chiomara?"

He caught the slight flinch of her expression. "I come only because I was called here. No more."

"By whom were you called?" He continued to pace.

"Fionn, leader of the Fianna. I can tell you no more."

He ignored the heat rising in him, the pure lust and desire he felt at her closeness.

Erc stopped and looked down at her. "An unusual creature brings you to my wedding, Druidess."

She merely nodded.

“What am I to make of this? Of you?” She blinked at his words. He fell to his knees in front of her. "It is too much for me to bear you being here, Chiomara. Why do you torment me so?"

Her hands shook as they rose to his face. "Your torment is my torment, my king."

He took her hands and held them over his cheeks. "But you will not leave? You will stay and watch me wed another woman?"

She leaned over and cradled his head. "There is no other way."

“This is wrong,” he murmured. But even as he said it, Erc grabbed Chiomara and brought her down onto him. "You torture me, Druidess."

She wrapped her arms around his neck and allowed him to cradle her in his lap. "Your wife will please you."

He stroked her soft hair, inhaled her sweet smell. "No one will ever please me such as you have."

Chiomara ran her fingertip over his lips. "My touch can be replicated if you will only allow it."

Erc shook his head and kissed her finger. "No woman will be a part of me such as you are."

"You know naught what you speak of, foolish king."

He brought Chiomara to the floor of the forest and covered her. "My need for you surpasses my foolishness. Will you have me again, Druidess, or will you deny me?"

Her lips parted but no words came forth. He filled her lack of response with his kiss. When alas he drew away, Erc asked again. "Will you have me again?"

Sky here. That's it for now folks! Hope you enjoyed. *grins*

Need a little Pre-Halloween Pick Me Up? Are you all-things-paranormal? I Got It!

Totally hyped up for Halloween and getting my 'spooks' all lined up in a tidy little row.

Got busy tonight whipping up a book trailer for my upcoming paranormal romance trilogy. It's all about Calum's curse. I won't dive into details but he's a character from my MacLomain Series. This go around he's not only a mortal man but a ghost... depending on what story you're reading. But, as it should be, the trilogy focuses on the main characters and their romantic predicaments. *Wicked grin*

Up's and down's. In's and out's. This trilogy takes you on a mind-bending, hold-on-tight ride through some supernatural situations you never could've imagined existed!

All the hype aside, tons of great stuff coming up soon at this blog. Stay tuned!

A little Erotica with your coffee? Rynne Raines.

It's release time!!!

Have you heard? Rynne Raines' latest, Legally Bound is now available for download. Love erotica? Then Rynne's your girl. Here's a bit more about this tale...

Evelyn Morgan has a secret. Donavan Carver wants to expose it. Bondage, debauchery, and a weekend at Eden lands one of them on their knees.

For years, Eve has craved sexual domination, but a kinky romp in the hay isn't worth destroying her prestigious legal reputation over. Even if that romp’s with her handsome rival and legendary Dominant, Donavan Carver. Desperate to protect her secret and keep the notorious playboy at bay, Eve clings to the lie she’s told for two years—she’s a Domme. Donavan doesn’t buy it. Given an opportunity to put Donavan’s doubts to rest, Eve lures him into a bet he can’t win--one that will tether him to her leash. So what if she cheats to win? He’ll never find out. Or will he?

Excerpt:

At the challenge, Eve lifted her chin a measure while the wheels in her head nearly flew off their tracks. This could be her chance to finally put Donavan’s doubts about her being a Mistress to rest. “Care to make a friendly wager, then?”

Donavan studied her thoughtfully. “I’ve been known to make a bet or two. What did you have in mind?”

As if deep in thought, Eve tapped one freshly manicured fingernail against her lips. She wasn’t however. She knew exactly what she wanted.

“All right, if I win this case, we will attend the masquerade together—ah,” Eve wagged her finger when he tried to interrupt. “But you will be my slave. You’ll peel me grapes, rub my feet, and if you’re lucky I might just let you fan me with one of those giant feathers.”

For the first time in ages, Eve saw Donavan hesitate. It was only for a split second but it was there. Perhaps the stakes were just a bit too high for him.

“And if you lose?” he asked, intrigue evident in his tone.

There was no chance in hell of her losing now that she had the tape. Although it was underhanded to make a bet with an ace in the hole, he would never find out. No harm. No foul.

“If I lose, I’ll willingly submit to you for the entire weekend.”

His eyes narrowed and Eve’s pulse skipped a beat. Could he smell the bet was fixed? Did she look too eager? Too confident? Were her lips twitching and giving her lucky ace away?

Her throat dried further as Marcy proudly clutched the tape to her chest and marched toward them. If Donavan spotted that cassette, he wouldn’t enter into a wager that could land him on his knees without seeing what was on the tape first. She needed his answer. Now.

“What do you say, Carver?”

With his scorching gaze hot enough to melt the buttons clean off her ivory blouse, Donavan scanned her from head to toe. He brought his eyes back to hers. “You got yourself a bet, counselor.”

MONDAY COVERS IT. Hywela Lyn's BRAND NEW cover for Dancing with Fate. Contest!!!

Happy Monday All!

This week it’s my pleasure to welcome back talented romance author and cherished friend, Hywela Lyn. As many of you know It’s all about starting your work week out right here at A Writer’s Mind with my Monday Covers It feature.

Lyn has relaunched her title, DANCING WITH FATE and I have to say… I LOVE this cover!

CONTEST ALERT! Hywela Lyn is graciously giving away an Ecopy of DANCING WITH FATE to TWO lucky commenters this week. So be sure to comment on any of Lyn’s post this week for your chance to win! Contest ends Sunday, July 24th, 12 AM EST.

Time to 'hear' from Lyn. Let's learn the scoop behind this cover’s creation…

“The cover was designed by my friend and fellow author, the talented Miss Mae. I didn’t give a lot of input in fact, I didn’t need to. She read the story and immediately picked up on the fact that my heroine, Terpsichore, loves to bathe in waterfalls. She came up with this stunning waterfall and a lovely, mysterious young woman who fits my idea of Terpsichore perfectly. The glowing bubbles add to the mythological effect.”

A little more about this story…

When Terpsichore, the Greek Muse of Dance, is assigned to revisit 5th Century Wales, and help the people regain their love of dancing, her task seems simple enough. She is unaware there is a hidden agenda. Before she can return to Olympus her path crosses that of the mysterious Myrddin, and her heart is lost.

But Myrddin is promised to another. His mind is set on the dangerous task that lies before him, and the woman he has sworn to save. Nevertheless, he cannot deny the growing attraction between him and the beautiful stranger he meets along the way.

Terpsichore and Myrddin face a deadly force that threatens to part them forever. Is she destined to lose the only man she has ever truly loved? Is there nothing she can do to save him? Finally, when all seems lost, in desperation she finds herself DANCING WITH FATE.

What critics are saying…

"Sweet Terpsichore may be immortal, but she has the same feelings and urges as any woman, and I wanted her to find happiness with Myrddin. With poetic prose and sizzling romance, this story is a must read for mythology and fantasy fans alike."

Aubrie Dionne
Romantic Science Fiction and Fantasy
Get Swept Away to Other Worlds...

"Greek Mythology has rarely been so much fun to read. Hywela Lyn builds an excellent love story even with all the tongue twisting names that add even more fun to the tale."
