Help Fight Childhood Cancer- Donate an Autographed Book!!!

I know we’re all gearing up for Memorial Day Weekend but someone emailed me asking for help and I simply couldn’t refuse her. As you all know, I’m a huge supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness. Well, there’s something even more important than that. Supporting a cure for childhood cancer. I can’t imagine what it’s like for a child and their parents to go through such a thing. As a mom to a four year old, I choke up even thinking about it. What about you? Are you a mom? An aunt? A friend to someone with a child? Can you even imagine?

This post isn’t a spam. It comes from a very reputable source. Click here to visit St. Baldrick's Foundation. Read on to hear what Renee is doing to try to help.

From her lips to my blog…

“I am a nineteen year old female college student. This summer I am shaving my head for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to raise childhood cancer research funds and I’m asking for your help. Childhood cancer is seriously under-funded and it is our job to raise awareness for the children who can’t fight this war on their own.”

“Maybe you might put an add in your newsletter or donate an autographed book. Of course, donating money for our cause would always be welcome and gives the most direct support. Awareness is a key factor as well, tell your friends, your family anyone you can about our cause. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity and your support may be tax deductible. If you would like to donate directly on my site please click here."

“As a part of a group called Mommas Shave For The Brave, I and the others will have our heads shaved on national TV on September 13, 2010 in an effort to raise childhood cancer awareness. I need your help with our fundraising in any way you can help. You can find our main website at http://www.46mommas.com/. In case your are wondering why we call ourselves the 46 mommas the answer is simple, there are 46 children diagnosed with cancer every weekday.”

“If you would like to send an autographed book please mail it to the following address: Renee Combs 105 Tahoma Rd Lexington KY, 40503.”

“Thank you for your time and any help you can provide in fighting childhood cancer. If you would like to ask any questions please feel free to email me at rcombs0061@yahoo.com.”

Sincerely,
Renee Combs

Sky here again. I’ve emailed back and forth with Renee a few times. Her cause is just…and incredible. So please─calling all authors─donate an autographed book! Calling everyone else, consider making a small monetary donation. I can think of no better way to top off and celebrate Memorial Day Weekend than helping children with cancer.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday weekend.

Best Regards,
Sky

Sky,

I can't begin to express how thankful I am that you took a moment to mention our team on your blog. My daughter, Arden, died after a valiant 10-month battle with stage IV, high risk Neuroblastoma. Something that helps me process my grief and move forward is advocating for the children who are still fighting, those trying to survive the long-term effects of treatment, and those yet to be diagnosed.

I am so proud to be a part of this incredible team of Moms and other touched by Childhood Cancer, and look forward to explaining to people after September 13th why I'm so proud to be bald, having been on of 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave.

Thanks again,

Amy Bucher
mom of ^^Arden^^ (forever 3), Grayson (3 1/2), and Zoey (6 months)

Amy I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have a baby cousin that was diagnosed with cancer at 2mo of age, she had cancer of the eye. They removed the eye and she goes back regularly to have the other eye rechecked. It has been a yr and we are blessed, she is still cancer free. She has a prostetic eye but she is a beautiful baby.

It does seem as though there isn't enough funding for childrens cancer research as well as other illnesses. I don't understand that. People (gov) go out of there way to help when it comes to adult illnesses but don't do enough for our younger citizens.

I am a proud mother of 3 girls, they have there own health battles but I am happy everyday I have them because no matter what I am blessed to have them with me. There are so many that take this for granted. I will do what I can to spread the word. You all will be in my prayers.

God Bless You,
Brandlwyne
mother of 3 beautiful girls 14, 13 &10

Sky, Thank you for talking about us on your blog. It brings tears to my eyes - knowing that other people care and are willing to do their small part in helping to find a cure.

I am also one of the 46 Mommas. My son, Isaac, was diagnosed with a brain tumor 4 days before his 7th birthday. He had some treatment (chemo and craniospinal radiation) and was off treatment for a few years before needing chemo again this past summer. Isaac is getting towards the end of treatment again. Shaving my head seems like such a small thing to do but I know the awareness we are bring to childhood cancer will be amazing.

Thanks again for supporting Renee and our team. You are wonderful!

Brandlwyne and Karen, my heart goes out to you as well. And I agree, there should be more funding for childhood cancer. I just don't get it. They're our future!

I hope people get the word out and things start to change.

Hugs

Hi Sky,
This is a wonderful thing to be doing for the children. Childhood Cancer is a terrible thing to endure for the child and the parents. I'm very blessed that my now 22 year old daughter is alive today and healthy. At seven she was diagnosed with Osteo-sarcoma (Bone cancer)in her right shoulder and scapula. We spent eleven and a half months as an in patient for her to receive 5 chemos a day and then the surgery to remove the shoulder bone and the (wing)scapula and replace it with a Titanium implant. It was hard time but a very enlightening time. Raising money for Childhood cancer should be a most easy task but you find out that's not always the case. For my daughter , if it were not for a group called The Valerie Fund Children's services we'd have not made it as easily as we did. SO on June 12th we will walk with all other survivors and parents to raise money for childhood cancer.
Thanks for posting Sky.And to all I put your children in my prayers for speedy recovers. God Bless

Carol, how wonderful your daughter is a survivor. And what a road you both must have gone down. I know you pop in often and am always so glad to see you. I hope your walk goes well on the the 12th and that you raise lots of money. I'll be thinking of you!

Big Hugs and God Bless,
