CHRISTMAS IN JULY! Blog Event (Ancient Musings-Song of the Muses Anthology)

July 14th: Christmas in July! Blog Event. (Participating bloggers listed to the right)

Welcome back! I hope you had a nice relaxing Sunday. Thanks for all the fabulous comments you left yesterday. It was so wonderful reading them this morning. The winner of yesterday’s contest is….Mel K. (meljprincess)!!! Congrat’s Mel K! Please contact me at Skypurington@live.com to collect your prize.

As I mentioned yesterday, the next nine days involve Myspace and the Muses of Inspiration. If you’ve popped in before you may remember the day I posted the excerpt for Highland Muse. Well, it’s part of an Anthology called Song of the Muses. Each story has a different author and of course, a different muse. Each day, going in the order in which they fall in the series, I will post the story’s cover, author, who their muse is and a link to that muses Myspace page. Yes, every single muse has their own site! If the story is available I’ll also provide a buy link.

Your mission? To head on over to each muse site as it’s posted and search out the answer to the question I ask that day, pop back to my blog and leave the answer in a comment. No worries, I won’t make them difficult! (hint, hint, most answers can be found in the blurb on each of the Muse's Myspace sites)

NOTE: If you have a Myspace feel free to shoot us a friend request and keep up to date on what’s happening with the anthology!

Today’s post, as you can see, is about Skhye Moncrief’s, Ancient Musings, story one in The Song of the Muses Anthology. Today’s question is who does Calliope, Muse of Writing, challenge to end her immortal existence? To find the answer visit Calliope at the following link. http://www.myspace.com/calliopemuse1of9 then return to this blog.

Have the answer? Great! Tell me what it is in a comment for a chance to win a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press. Please check back tomorrow to find out who won. All winners must contact me at Skypurington@live.com.

Hope you had a blast yesterday visiting Chicks of Characterization blogspot!

Before I get started the winner of yesterday’s contest is…(crowd jumps up & down)…Jeanette!!! Congratulations Jeanette, please contact me at Skypurington@live.com to collect your prize!

Remember when I said I was waiting on Sylvan’s Mist’s cover? Wide Grin. Well, it’s finished!!! Check it out! The extremely talented Tamra Westbury has done it again. I actually received it at the start of the week but wanted my featured authors to have their moment in the sun. Have to tell you, the waiting has been killing me. I wanted to post it the minute I received it.

So seeing how it’s Sunday and I’m going to be sending you to different Muse Myspace sites over the next nine days, I figured to keep today’s contest simple. All you need to do is join me in celebration by leaving a comment about Sylvan’s Mist’s cover! To celebrate the last cover for my Scottish Trilogy, I’ll be giving away one of my all time favorite CD’s. (I think I listened to it about 50 times last Christmas while writing) It’s called Highland Christmas (Highland Bagpipes). If you like the bagpipes you don’t want to miss out on a chance to win this. I know, I know, it’ll be a while before you can listen to it but you’ll be thanking me come December!

Thanks so much for playing!

The Awakening

Torn between fantasy and reality, Natalie Kendrick wakes each morning on fire, haunted by passionate dreams of Alexander, the nineteenth century gentleman she believes saved her life fifteen years ago. But when living outside the erotic dream world they share becomes unbearable, she seeks the help of a dream analyst. The solution seems simple: dream suppressants. But can Natalie bring herself to forever shut out the only man she has ever loved--from her head, her life and her heart?

Reflections

What is an untamable rake to do after being cursed to suffer a fate unknown to man; to experience solitude in the deepest sense of the word? Watch and wait.

As a silent observer in a world he is no longer part of, Rykel Deveau has entertained himself by becoming engrossed in the lives of the living. Society has changed in two hundred years—more importantly, women have changed.

Now, over two centuries later, Rykel finds himself forced to share his living quarters with the most unusual female he has ever come across, sensual artist, Danica Lovel. Between the woman's hideous tattered bathrobe and unsightly pink slippers, he should be appalled, yet bizarrely, he finds himself strongly drawn to her. He wants her. The problem is, she has no idea he exists.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY! Blog Event (Eve of Revelation)

July 6’th: Christmas in July! Blog Event. (Participating Bloggers listed to the right)

Welcome back! Sorry I’m a bit late with today’s post (Having internet woes, sigh) Again, thanks to all that popped in yesterday and welcome to anyone new today. So, on to the good stuff. The winner from yesterday’s contest is… Jane! Congratulations, Jane! Please contact me at Skypurington@live.com to collect your prize.

Today’s excerpt is the last and from a story I wrote recently called Eve of Revelation. It’s brand new, not even published yet (finger’s crossed that it gets there!) In this one I headed in a whole new direction. Why you ask? It’s a vampire story! Be forewarned, it’s a bit hotter than the other excerpts. All right, for a chance to win today’s prize, a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press, leave a comment telling me what her scent is.

Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see who the winner is!

Excerpt:

Gabriel moved fast and caught her. Why had the woman worn heels? He smiled, grateful for her poor taste in nautical attire. Wrapping one arm around her he moved her back against the railing. He couldn’t contain the tremors that rocked him.

At long last, she was here.

He inhaled… Lilac. Always Lilac. Her scent, her perfection. He ran his tongue over his lips and breathed in the scent of her neck. The pulse of her heartbeat, fast for him, aroused for him. How he had waited for this. Needed it, her, only her. He flicked his tongue, ran it up her neck and before she could speak, seized her lips. Heated, ready, she met him with more vigor than he thought possible. He dove into her mouth, tongue swooping, searching, wanting.

Nicole.

Could she remember? Did she? He ran his hands the length of her, cupped her buttocks, and pulled her lower half against him. Let her feel his need. This was Heaven, his Heaven, his one light in eternal darkness. Teeth, lips, blood mixed, her blood, like molten silver and sugared wine.

Like a slap in the face.

He pulled back and shook his head, searched for air. Lust reddened his vision. She reddened his vision. Nikki. Nicole.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY! Blog Event (Slyvan's Mist)

July 5’th: Christmas in July! Blog Event (Participating Bloggers listed to the right)

Welcome! As always, a huge thank you to those of you that swung by yesterday and left such great comments. Today’s excerpt is from the third novel in my Scottish trilogy, Sylvan’s Mist. As we speak the cover for this book is being created by the extremely talented Tamra Westberry! The book itself will be available in 2009. (Perhaps sooner.)

Okay, it’s that time again. And the winner is…Zulmara!!!! Please contact me at Skypurington@live.com to collect your prize.

To win a chance at today’s prize, a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press, simply tell me what weather element William controls. Please check back tomorrow to find out who won. All winners must contact me at Skypurington@live.com. Don’t forget to swing by the other participating bloggers for a chance to win five more prizes!

Excerpt:

Energy rushed past Coira as William’s arms pulled her close. Then there was simply the feel of cool mist, soothing and thorough. More welcoming than she was willing to admit.

“Don’t worry, lass. I’ve got you.” His whisper caressed her ear and she nuzzled closer.

“Where are we?”

His hand cupped the back of her neck. “In between.”

“In between?”

“Aye. Within Ferchar’s fire is my mist. And mist doesn’t have to move fast.” His voice turned husky. “And my mist does not burn off with heat.”

She couldn’t stop the words if she tried. “Perhaps you’ve not come across a strong enough heat.”

His laughter was low and tempting. “Mayhap you’re right.”

Unafraid, she lifted her head, eager to see his mist, his magic. Instead she saw his face, so close, eager. William’s eyes shone silver, the beautiful planes of his face stark. “I’ve a need to kiss you again, Coira.”

She had no answer for that and didn’t turn away when his lips met hers. They weren’t gentle. Had she wanted them to be? Lord no. Passion uncoiled within and she yearned for an unnamed savagery. His kiss deepened. Foreign, thrilling energy seized her limbs, ripped her mind from her body and bled all reason from her soul.

His arms encircled her waist and he lifted her. He moaned when she wrapped her legs around him. She could no longer tell if they swirled or if the mist encasing them did. Coira didn’t care. She wanted more.

So much more.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY! Blog Event (Destiny's Denial)

July 4th: Christmas in July! Blog Event. (Participating bloggers listed to the right)

Happy Fourth of July!!!

For those returning thanks so much for all of your lovely comments yesterday (blush). For those of you just tuning in this week’s all about excerpts from different stories I’ve written.

Before I go any further I’d bet you’d like to know who won yesterday’s contest. (Crowd waits with baited breath) And the winner is Kimberly b.!!! Congratulations, Kimberly. Please contact me at Skypurington@live.com to collect your prizes.

Now we’re on to book two in my Scottish Trilogy, Destiny’s Denial. This story is a personal favorite for many reasons. The medieval brooding hero, the modern day heroin, the list is endless. To win a chance at today’s prize, a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press and a free digital copy of Destiny’s Denial, leave a comment telling me what color the little flecks in his blue eyes are!

Please check back tomorrow to see who the winner is. All winners must contact me at Skypurington@live.com. Don’t forget to visit the five other participating bloggers for a chance to win more prizes!

Excerpt:

“I didn’t realize I was doing anything to your men or otherwise.” She took a step back as he took a step forward.

“Unlikely,” he said.

“Why do you doubt me? You don’t know me.” He had her backed up another step.

“I know enough about you just by watching your actions.”

Both his tone and assumption annoyed her. Blast his ice blue eyes. She wanted to look away but that would be giving in. “And I you.”

“It’s unwise to compare us.” He almost had her against the wall between the room of claymores and battle-axes. “But if I were to humor you, what do you mean by that?”

Ah, she had gained ground. “Just that my appreciation for the male species is obviously equivalent to yours for the female.”

One corner of his lip pulled up and his eyes flickered over her face until they landed on her lips. “You could only be referring to Emma.”

Caitlin willed the fire from her face even as it flooded in. She was as transparent as a newly cleaned window. “I’m referring to the fact that I have as much right to entertain a man as you do a woman.”

His hands fell to the wall on either side of her head and Caitlin’s breath switched pace. What was he doing? She could duck beneath his arm and escape but would again give him the upper hand. His leaned so close she could make out the little flecks of silver caught in his eyes.

“Our situations are very different,” he whispered.

His luscious mouth was within inches of hers and the nearness of his heat began melting the muscles so crucial to holding her legs up. She suddenly rethought things. It’d be best to move away from him. Caitlin sprung into action and dipped to move under his arm.

Too late, the skin on their arms touched. That was all it took.

July 3rd. Christmas in July! Blog Event. Fate's Monolith.

July 3rd: Christmas in July! Blog Event. (Participating Bloggers listed to the right)

I’d like to start by saying, "Thank you!!!!" to everyone that stopped by yesterday and offered such fantastic feedback about The King’s Druidess with your entries!

So I bet you’re wondering who won yesterday’s contest? (Irish Jig plays a snappy tune in the background) Congratulations to Michelle, you won! Please contact me at Skypurington@live.com to receive your prizes!

Back to business. As you know it’s excerpt week here at my blog. Today’s is from Fate’s Monolith, the first novel in my Scottish Trilogy. Mind you, I debated long and hard on the excerpt to put forth but decided on this one because it was the moment when Adrianna let go of herself and felt Iain for the first time. So sit back and enjoy. Ah yes, the prize for today is a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press and a free download of Fate's Monolith. For a chance to win today’s prize just leave a comment telling me what Iain’s hand cupped the back of. (Wide grin, not nearly as dirty as it sounds!) Don't forget to check back tomorrow to see who won and of course, swing by my fellow bloggers listed to the right to win more prizes!

Excerpt:

“I will dance with my wife now, cousin.” Iain’s tone left no room for debate.

“But of course, my laird,” Malcolm said. A thin grin turned half his mouth up and the other half down.

Arianna was tossed from one man to the other.

Relieved to be free of Malcolm’s grasp she found herself in a far more dangerous one.

“Are you enjoying yourself?” Iain had seen her disappear into the throng of people with Malcolm. Ready to commit murder, he watched the two cling to each other. He would deal with his cousin later, his wife now.

“Aye.”

“Is Malcolm to your liking?” No wife of his would behave this way.

“He’s nice enough.”

“Nice enough? What do you mean by that?” Iain tightened his hold on her.

“I mean that he’s nice enough but I’m glad that I’m not dancing with him anymore,” Arianna said.

Iain was at a loss for words. It seemed he may have misinterpreted things.

“Are you jealous?” Arianna’s heart paused.

Iain slid his hand down her back. “No.”

“No?” Her body reacted when his hand slid even lower.

“No.” He pulled her lower half against him.

“No.” This time she gasped the word against his chest. Now Arianna understood why she couldn’t open the barn door for Aunt Marie; and what Edward had meant when he’d said he was aroused! She closed her eyes, breath irregular.

Iain’s other hand cupped the back of her neck, beneath her hair. He moved slower. The man could dance. His head lowered and nuzzled the side of her neck.

Ripples of pleasure washed over her. Was she still saying no?

“I never imagined…” He whispered in her ear. “This.”

When his lips met her neck she shivered. A new sensation swallowed her.

“Iain.”

“Aye.”

“I, I’m not, I, this is…I.” What was she saying?

He silenced her with his mouth. With his hand still on the back of her neck he guided her. Nothing was real anymore when he made her lips his.

July 2nd:Christmas in July! The King's Druidess

July 2nd: Christmas in July! Blog Event. (Participating Bloggers listed to the right)

And yesterday’s winner is (Drum roll please)…Estella! Please contact me at Skypurington@live.com, Estella. A huge thank you to everyone that took the time to swing in and leave such great comments!

For today’s post I’ve decided to go back in time a bit to my first short story, The King’s Druidess. Set in fifth century Ireland, this little tale is a lead-in to my medieval Scottish trilogy. Bet you’re curious how the two can be related? Grin. It’s all based on actual recorded lineage.

To win a chance at today’s prize, a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press and a free download of The King’s Druidess, you’ll need to leave a comment telling me what Erc did to Chiomara’s hood. Be sure to check back tomorrow to see if you won. All winners must contact me at Skypurington@live.com in order to collect their prize. Have fun and don’t forget to visit the other participating bloggers listed to the right. There are five more prizes to be had!

Excerpt:

Chiomara walked around the stones and stood beside the oak. Her back was straight and head high as she waited. It was the full moon that gave his face to her first. He stood tall and beautiful at the edge of the tree line. She had not seen Erc Breac, king of Dal'Riada, for many years. He said nothing but came to her. His eyes were of the earth, deep brown and thickly lashed.

At arms length, he stopped. "Druidess, you are even lovelier than I remember."
She lifted her hand and touched his bare chest. "Were we not still macdacht, children when we last met?"

His muscles rippled at the contact and his hand covered hers. "We were as you say, but we are grown now. And we are both led to this place at this time."

Erc's heart beat strong beneath her fingertips and his heat scorched her blood. "So we meet with one purpose."

His hands came up to her hood and pulled it back gently. "I can not promise you that."

The rumble of Erc's soul encased his fingers as they ran the length of her hair. Sifted through the platinum depths of it until the pleasure of his touch drew her closer.
She breathed the prophecy through eager lips. "Do they not foretell us coming together for one purpose?"

His words turned sensuous and contemplative. "They do. But what do they know of how I will feel once I have tasted you?"

CHRISTMAS IN JULY! Blog Event (July 1st)

Thanks for joining me on the first day of my Christmas in July! Blog Event. This week’s all about mini excerpts from stories that I’ve either released or are coming soon. I thought the spicier the better for blog reading, what do you think?

Today’s prize? A free download of Highland Muse and a $5 Gift Certificate to The Wild Rose Press. The winner will be listed tomorrow. Please check back and email me at Skypurington@live.com if you won and I’ll get your prize right out to you! Please note before we go any further that the other Bloggers that are participating in this contest are listed to the right, that means five more chances to win!!!

Okay (smile) I’ve decided to start with my latest release, Highland Muse, part of The Song of the Muses Series. In this story, Melpomene, Muse of Tragedy, falls in love with a mortal. All you need to do to enter for a chance to win today’s prize is leave a comment telling me the color of Melpomene’s hair.

Excerpt:

Her violet gaze darkened but stayed strong. She showed nothing of feminine emotion only that of a tigress. Her plaid, his colors, worn despite her earlier misgivings, mocked him. Her slim arms and feminine muscles, ready to attack, intrigued him. She dressed for war, his war. “I don’t need to earn your love, you’ll give it willingly. When you’re ready, you’ll let your past go. When you do, I’ll be here.”

With her statement she twisted the blade away. Her eyes scorned, entreated him with a brief side sweep of thick red lashes. “And your battle with Ares has become mine. I am a goddess, he is a god. You are mortal. You’re powerless. Your obligations are now mine.”

All of a sudden, though she was a goddess, he wanted to hide her away in a corner of the castle. Keep her fiery, rebellious and prideful spirit hidden and safe. Away from obligations made. Obligations she had nothing to do with. His thoughts brought a chuckle to his lips. His chuckle incited more fury from her.

The tips of her cheeks reddened and her freckles became pronounced. She stepped closer; her head tilted back, eyes venomous. “You laugh!”

His heart stopped. Time froze. How perfect she appeared at this moment, hair aflame and eyes direct, the blade in hand. He’d never met another like her. The light and courage behind her powerful regard was truth. More valiant than he’d seen in his best warrior. And in a woman!

He knew naught what to do with the moment. Fight her? Cut her down with words? Bring her to the floor and ravish her? Aye, that’s what he’d like to do.

Instead he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tightly against his body until her curves were part of him, her skin one with his. He rested his head on top of her cypress ringed red cap and stared into the flames once again. What to do? How to temper her?

She shivered and rippled against him। Made him think of how she had looked nude and wet। He shut his eyes to the flame and saw only her, perfectly formed. How hard it’d been to not take her then, all the lust, anger and emotion. He wasn’t fond of emotion. Since he’d met Melpomene there’d been naught but it. Had she been with him his whole life as she’d claimed? Whispering, singing, inspiring? Another voice? A comrade?

Red Spot!

Hi all!

Okay, as usual I'm fiddling about with this blog. Can I be honest? I'm a horrible blogger but I'm working on it! I spent five hours today with my hands in the dirt, planting everything from Dahlia's to Geraniums. What did I get out of it? Dirty fingernails, sore joints and...yes, a wide smile on my face. I love this time of year and have missed gardening. Regrettably, I forgot when I planned my main garden that the two centerpieces were these massive red rose bushes, and when I say massive I'm not kidding, one's four feet tall! So, I went and bought Dahlia bulbs that will get that tall and what color are they you ask? Ugh, Red! Every gardener out there knows that I just went a little too red with garden! I told my husband those flying into Manchester airport will know where we live, we're the BIG red dot on the ground!

Regardless, it made me think of my writing as most things do, I know, roll your eyes, everything in my world revolves around writing! But seriously, right now, what I'm doing feels like a big RED dot that stands out from everything I've done thus far. Why you ask?

I'm writing a vampire tale!

For all of you that aren't into that I completely understand, I've gone off base a bit....but for those of you that are into vampires I look forward and hope that what I write appeals to you. If you like Anne Rice (one of my favorites) and aren't into the gore of vampire tales what I'm doing now might work for you. So keep your eyes peeled, I'll let you know more as soon as this is cut in stone.

Until then, have a fantastic weekend!
