Let’s Interview!

What inspired you to write this book?

I love dragons, and this series is dedicated to dragons who live in the underrealm deep within the earth’s core. There is also an underlying message about the destruction of the planet, which I think is something we all need to think about as the legacy of our generation. All of my books have themes to make people think long after they stop reading.

How did you come up with the title?

Every title in my series starts with the same word – so I have the Elements and Dragons collections. It makes it easy for my readers to keep track of. Dragons of Destiny was the first title as I believe we all have a destiny and so do my dragons!! Dragons of Fate is the second book because the dragons have fated mates and I do love that fate likes to push our buttons sometimes.

What made you choose the main setting for your book?

The book moves between the mortal plane (earth), the underrealm (dragon’s lair), and the fae lands where the fae courts come from. I like to play on the idea that our world overlaps other energy dimensions and brings different folklore in to explain strange happenings and unexplained places in our world.

If you could spend an hour in real life with one of your characters, who would it be and why?

I loved the idea of Evanora’s character – broken by evil, she put herself back together again one piece at a time. She’s a badass with magic, and we’d all love to be able to control the elements even for an hour.

Tell us about your book cover and how it relates to your story.

I LOVE the covers for this series. DRAGONS!! Sorry… The cover is Darius protecting Evanora, who is emerging whole through his flames. It is the story in picture form.

Are you currently working on another story? If so, we’d love some details.

This series will have four books. Dragons of Chaos is nearly finished and it follows Justus and Celeste as they continue the story of the battle against the krakens. Each couple have different obstacles to overcome, and Justus has a unique storyline that had me scratching my head as to how it was going to unfold. My alpha reader read the first section (I print off each 50pages as I go and ensure it makes sense) and said NO! It needs to change until they got to the big reveal, and then it was NO! it needs to stay as it is…

Did you enjoy writing one scene above all the rest? If so, share.

I loved writing the scene when Evanora finally stepped into her magic power and showed her captor and the corrupt council what true power looks like. She didn’t need to hurt or suppress anyone to establish her dominance because she wielded real power with every step and movement of her body.

How long have you been writing? How long have you been published?

I started writing in 2016 and published my first book, Elements of Flames, that year. I’d had surgery and was sitting twiddling my thumbs. Every so often in the past I’d wondered about writing, but a little voice inside me whispered what if?

Everything that came after that was a major learning curve for me as I’m self published. Writing the books is the easy part!

What genre/genres do you prefer to write? Are there other genres you’d like to write in the future?

I have always loved paranormal romance. I still have all my mythology books from when I was younger. I think that’s why you find so many myths and legends hiding between the pages of my books.

Do you write books in series? If so, share a bit about the series you currently have published or are coming soon.

The Otherworld Chronicles is based in the Otherworld, which overlaps our human world. I’m trained as a geneticist and I followed the theory of the missing link – it’s not missing at all. The missing link was magic and it evolved in a different realm. Morgan was hidden on earth, far from her roots and Drake stumbles upon her when he is investigating a series of deaths by a rogue Elemental who is sacrificing seven women on every pagan festival. The series follows the history of Morgan’s family through different characters. The story is filled with pagan symbology, folklore, and mythology.

Excerpt

I sauntered out of the room in search of Darius. If he thought he could avoid me, he would need to rethink his strategy. He was in his bedroom with his hip braced against the window frame, staring out at the ocean.

“I thought we agreed you would break the bond and leave,” he snapped without looking around.

“No, I didn’t agree to either of those things, Darius. Just because you are my mate doesn’t mean you can tell me what to do.” I sat on the end of the bed.

His back stiffened at the word mate.

“You can’t stay here.”

“I can stay anywhere you are. We share a blood link.”

That got his attention because he spun around. “I could block access to all my homes...”

I sighed and stood up, letting some of my power loose. His arms were pinned against the wall beside his head, and his feet stuck to the floor. “The problem is, Darius, that you belong to me just as I am yours. I have no intention of going anywhere.”

I stepped against him and watched as he swallowed and glanced away. He could neutralise every feature, but his body betrayed him. I ran my fingers over his chest to his waist, deliberately moving closer to sniff his mating mark on his neck.

“Definitely no nymphs or succubus scents, Darius. You’ll need to try harder if you want to make me jealous.” My breath mingled with his. “We are made from the same energy. If I am unable to stomach the thought of another lover, the same applies to you.”

I pressed myself against him, and felt his automatic reaction to my presence. I nipped his mating mark with my teeth, and his quick inhale of breath made me smile. Tracing the outline of it with my tongue, I held onto his waist as an anchor. My lips kissed a path up his neck, even as he held his head away from me. The tips of my fangs dragged against the artery that pulsed in his neck.

Sexual tension pulsed off him in waves, and my dragoness purred in contentment.

“You belong to me, Darius. Make no mistake, I will annihilate any female you try to take as a lover.”

His head spun towards me, and my lips connected with his. I grabbed his head in my hands and poured every emotion that vibrated through my body into my lips.

He had always initiated our previous kisses. I needed to show him that I’d made a choice and he was the winner. I refused to let my past paralyse me anymore. Hecate wanted me to be a worthy heir to her magic. I would not allow anyone to hold me back from my fate.

Darius tried to resist me, but his dragon had other ideas. I felt him shimmer to the surface as his heat increased, gold flecks flashing across his skin. My tongue demanded entry to his mouth, because every breath of his belonged to me and vice versa.

The rest of the world faded into insignificance, my only focus the man in front of me. He struggled against the invisible restraints that held him, his dragon trying to get closer to his mate. I dropped my hands from his face and pressed one last kiss on his lips.

“You are mine, Darius. That is as true now as it was four hundred years ago. You can ignore me and leave a room when I enter it, but it will not change the fact that we belong together.”

I turned and walked towards the door, releasing his restraints.

My lips spread into a smile when I heard him screaming FUCK into the empty room.

Darius had spent his whole life being in charge, but I was the Gaian Enchantress, and I would no longer let my life be stolen away from me. The time had arrived for me to take what was mine.

About the Author

CR Robertson is a paranormal romance writer who lives in Ireland, the most magical country in the world. From an early age, she loved faerytales and mythological stories. She delved into the pages to go on an adventure with the characters, sparking a lifelong love of the literary world and story craft.

The Otherworld Chronicles started when the characters evolved in her head, constantly jumping in to tell their story until one day that nagging voice said, “Why not write their faerytale?” The rest resides in the pages of the Otherworld. Her in-depth knowledge of mythology and faerylore weaves the background for the characters in each of her manuscripts.

It may be cliché, but she has a cottage by the sea on the east coast of Ireland. Gardening is one of her favourite pastimes and is evident in her garden that is overflowing with crystals and seasonal flowers for the birds, butterflies, and her favourite bumblebees. Her dogs enjoy the sleepy seaside town and spend their time playing in the sea.

Fierce Vikings. Powerful Romance. Viking King's Vendetta (Rise of the Dragon, Book 1)

Waving hello! Hope everyone’s having a great summer. As usual, I’ve been writing away and oh-so-happy to be spending time with my Vikings again. There’s just nothing like a droolworthy tattooed dragon shifter hottie from ancient Scandinavia!

I LOVED spending time with my Sigdir Vikings again as we set out on another adventure. This time around expect less history and more world-building, Norse mythology and of course, a wide variety of dragon shifters and their various personalities. I had so much fun meeting the next round of modern day women and the Vikings they may or may not be meant for. Expect the usual action-packed battle scenes and yes, steamy romance.

I fell in love with Sven and Emily in Viking Ancestors’ Kin when they were younger and adored bringing them together in Viking King’s Vendetta. They were amazing as they faced way more than they bargained for. Anyway, I’ll stop chatting and let you get to reading. Hope you enjoy!

About the Book

Taking a few months to reflect on what she truly wants from life, Emily returns to her family home in Winter Harbor, Maine. Yet she should have known her ties with ancient Scandinavia and those with dragon blood would catch up with her. Moreover, that her connection with the man she loves would be impossible to ignore. Something soon proved when he pulls her back in time to tenth century Norway.

Determined to help his people defeat a dark prophecy, Viking Sven Sigdir returns to his homeland to find two regions minus their beloved kings. Leaderless, both clans look to Sven to rule. Though willing to rise up, he must first uncover the root of the prophecy. That means reuniting with the woman who holds his heart and setting forth on a perilous journey.

Sven and Emily navigate not only their feelings for one another but the burgeoning prophecy that might take it all away. Will they be able to conquer their new adversary before it’s too late? Or is this just the beginning of something that will change life as they know it? Find out in Viking King's Vendetta, an action-packed time travel romance full of adventure, epic battles, sizzling passion, unexpected twists and powerful Viking dragon-shifters.

Excerpt

“I need to go to Sven.” She worked to remain strong and level, rather than let emotions get the better of her. “How is he?”

“As to be expected,” Samantha replied.

She knew full well what ‘as to be expected’ meant when it came to Sven. He was somewhere alone whittling wood deep in thought, not sharing a darn thing with anyone. So imagine her surprise when they arrived, and she heard him roaring orders.

“Loki’s hell,” she muttered before she sprinted through the village in his direction. She ran past cottages with their long sloping roofs and a medieval society that had long been her own. Though many murmured hello, there was no missing the somber feel of the place.

Determined to at least stop Sven’s ranting, she rushed in the front door of the main lodge and stopped short. Though she had intended to race into his arms and hug him like she had always done, she did nothing of the sort.

No, she just stared at him.

Dressed in black pants, heavy boots, and a black leather jerkin, he raked a hand through his ebony hair as he paced. Though he had always been extraordinarily handsome, he was more so now. Was he always so tall and broad? Did he always carry himself with such confidence? His features had always been striking, but even they seemed to have changed. Matured somehow into a face that made her breath catch and her heart skip a beat.

His turbulent cobalt blue eyes turned her way. “Emily.”

That was it. That was all he said in a voice deeper than she recalled. But it was all she needed to snap out of her reverie and fly into his arms despite the annoying and very sudden shyness she felt. He didn’t say anything just wrapped her up in his arms like he had always done. Yet, not surprisingly, even that felt different. More encompassing.

That’s when she realized she was home.

It wasn’t the village or even the people but him. She pressed her cheek against his chest and inhaled deeply. She had missed his scent. Spruce, and woodland. Him. Sven. Her best friend.

“You are here,” he finally murmured, clearly relieved as he cupped her cheeks then brushed his lips across her forehead, just like he had always done. His eyes met hers. “I was worried about you.”

“Me too…I was worried…” She pressed her lips together, rallying her strength when she wanted to sob in relief. Now wasn’t the time for that. Like Samantha said, he needed her to be strong. That’s how they worked. If she was faltering, he was strong for her and vice versa. That was their thing.

Highlanders. Shifters. Scorching Romance. Oath of a Scottish Warrior-The MacLomain Series: Later Years.

I hope everyone’s enjoying a fabulous 2016 so far! As usual, I’ve kept busy traveling through time to medieval Scotland and ninth-century Scandinavia. The MacLomain Series: Later Years has been coming right along. Lots of unexpected things happen as Rònan and Erin come together. I absolutely loved writing about this couple as they struggled with the reasons they shouldn’t be together while fighting a strong attraction. As I’m sure you might have guessed by the blurb, you can expect not only a dragon-shifting Scotsman but his Viking brethren. So I won’t keep you waiting any longer. Oath of a Scottish Warrior is now available! Be sure to join me on tour for a chance to win a $25 gift card to either Amazon or Barnes & Noble. The schedule is listed at the end of this post.

Blurb

Haunted by childhood memories and the fact she is likely going mute, Erin embraces a quiet life in Vermont. A life away from all the mistakes she has made and the people she’s hurt. A peaceful existence with her horses. A cynic by nature, she doesn’t buy into what she soon learns. Apparently she’s part of an unending connection between twenty-first century Broun women and medieval MacLomain men. When a Claddagh ring crosses her path, she’s compelled to steal it. A bad move because the ring is meant to find true love. Something Erin feels she stopped deserving a long time ago.

Of dragon blood, Chieftain Rònan MacLeod is by birth, half MacLomain. While raised to protect the future King of Scotland, he lives life with an open mind. The idea of a ring binding him to one lass seems far-fetched. However, when a woman named Jackie calls to him from the dark edges of the Celtic Otherworld, he swears an oath to save her. That means traveling to the future to protect her before she’s taken by the enemy. The only problem? She is not where she should be. Instead, he finds a beautiful, defiant lass named Erin. Now he must make a choice. Continue seeking out Jackie or protect the one he’s with.

Thrust back in time to ninth-century Scandinavia, Rònan and Erin find sanctuary with his Viking ancestors. With help from not only King Naðr Véurr Sigdir but his offspring, they learn more than anticipated. Something that will either damn them or set them free. Drawn to one another, heat flares. A fire neither could have imagined. Scorching. Searing. Unavoidable. One they must fight if they want to save those they care for most.

Will they be able to protect wee Robert the Bruce from evil when they end up back in Scotland? Or will their repressed feelings be their ultimate doom? After all, it’s supposed to take the oath of a Scottish warrior to save a future king. Not the oath of a warrior who ended up forsaking all because he lost his heart along the way.

Excerpt

Erin almost overfilled the mug as she watched him out of the corner of her eye. Damn, he was hot as hell. Heat flared between her thighs as she eyed his snug leather pants, and broad, muscled, tattooed chest and arms. She swallowed. Maybe leaving him outside would have been the smarter move.

Rònan inhaled sharply then released a long, slow breath as he closed his eyes, shook his head, and whispered, “Gods give me strength, you smell good.”

Doing her best to keep her eyes averted, she held out a mug. “Here, drink. It’ll help warm you.”

“Many thanks,” he murmured and took the mug. “Will you not look at me then? You did so outside and we managed through.”

“Likely because I had a blade to your neck,” she reminded.

“If I’ve the strength to look at you then you’ve the same strength, lass,” he said softly. “Please.”

“Not gonna lie. I’m too damned aroused.” She shook her head and turned away. “Drink your ale and warm yourself, Rònan.”

He growled in frustration. “We need to push past this if we’re to protect the Bruce as we should.”
“We don’t need to look at each other to protect Robert.”

“Aye, but we do.” He downed the ale in a few gulps. “Especially if we’re to battle alongside one another. Eye contact is important.”

She hated to admit it but he was right. “I’ll get there. Promise. It just doesn’t look like it’ll be happening right now.” Though it was about the last thing she wanted to say for more reasons than one, she said, “Why aren’t you still with the redhead? After you warm up, it might be best if you rejoin her.”

“Nay.” He refilled his mug and handed her one as well. “Whilst she was pleasant enough I couldnae seem to muster desire for her.”

Erin almost cursed when a rush of satisfaction blew through her. “You two seemed to be doing just fine dancing.”

“Only because I meant to make you jealous,” he whispered. “Because I felt the same when I saw you with Darach and the Vikings.”

Though she should have been surprised by his bluntness, she wasn’t. Like her, he accepted what simmered between them for what it was. Simple lust based on dragon blood.

“Well, you’ve got nothing to be jealous of because Darach and I are just friends and me and my Viking posse have an understanding.” She took several sips as she navigated around him to the fire without meeting his eyes. “All that aside, we both need to remember that not only is what we’re feeling nothing more than a dragon thing but that Jackie’s out there somewhere waiting for you.”

“Viking posse?” he said. “Is that what you’re calling Tait and Bjorn?”

“Yup.”

“Why did you not take Tait tonight?” Rònan’s question was a deep rumble close to her ear as he moved behind her. “I know he offered and I know you were tempted to accept.”

Right. Because their thoughts mingled.

“You know the answer to that,” she said softly because she didn’t trust her vocal chords.

“Aye,” he said. “You think it would have complicated things had you taken Tait to your bed but I dinnae ken that. Perhaps it would have eased the ache you suffer now? Would easing that ache not make it easier to focus on what lies ahead?”

She was tempted to turn and confront him but stayed put. “Not if I ended up having stronger feelings for him because of it. Who knows, there’s a good chance I wouldn’t want to leave here if I did.”

“I saw how you were with the wee Bruce earlier,” he said. “So I dinnae doubt you would do whatever was needed to protect him.”

“How did you see?” she started then shook her head. “You never really left with the redhead did you?”

“I dinnae want the redhead,” he murmured, words still close to her ear, his body a warm wall at her back. “I want you, lass.”

Erin closed her eyes and focused on breathing evenly. “No, you want Jackie.”

“Aye, part of me,” he admitted. “But it feels more like desiring a figment of my imagination. ‘Tis nothing like what I feel now. Here.” His hand fell on her shoulder. “With you.”

Hell, this was pure torture.

Blood rushed through her veins so rapidly she grew lightheaded.

“I can’t.” She shook her head but couldn’t manage to step away, could not get her feet to work. “What if you and Jackie are meant for one another? I love that woman to death and would hate myself if…”

Save for the crackling fire and howling wind, the room grew quiet as her unsaid words hung in the air. As if his feet were as glued to the floor as hers, Rònan didn’t move for several long moments. Yet he eventually stepped away, his voice soft. “You’re right, lass. ‘Twould not be right.”

Passion of a Scottish Warrior (Book Four)
Coming May 16, 2016.
Available now for pre-order.

Determined to protect Jackie from evil, Darach Hamilton flees MacLomain Castle without telling anyone his destination. As foretold by Celtic Goddess Brigit, that should have made the enemy pursue him. But nothing is as it seems. When he learns the dark demi-god went after Jackie instead, he races to her side only to discover something unexpected. Things have changed. There might be hope for them. Maybe he can finally be with her. After all, he’s been dreaming about her for years. The only problem? He already pushed her into another man’s arms.

Over a month has passed since Jackie traveled back in time from modern day New Hampshire to medieval Scotland. Since then, it’s been a non-stop adventure. Now she’s in ninth-century Scandinavia with Heidrek, a Viking set to inherit the throne. A man that Darach wants her to be with despite the unforgettable kiss they shared. Then there’s the newfound Claddagh ring on her finger. Its stone can only be ignited by the love of a MacLomain. And Darach is by birth, the only remaining MacLomain not taken. Yet despite the power the ring’s glow could harness, she wants nothing to do with it. Not in light of her terrible secret. One she prays will keep any man from loving her because it will mean their ruin.

Many revelations come to light when Jackie, Darach, and Heidrek travel through time to keep the future King, wee Robert the Bruce safe. Determined to spare them heartbreak, Jackie refuses both men. Still, one of them ends up invoking unavoidable passion. A timeless draw. One she tries to fight. But some things are meant to be and Fate has a plan for them all. Epic love. Ultimate war. Inescapable death. Twists nobody saw coming. An ending that will either see Scotland through to what it is today or rewrite history altogether.

Find out how everything unfolds in Passion of a Scottish Warrior, the final installment in the MacLomain Series: Later Years.
