What Every Woman Wants Under Her Christmas Tree. Renee Vincent's Emerald Isle. Chance to win autographed books and Celtic jewelry!

Welcome to my What Every Woman Wants Under Her Christmas Tree blog event! It’s been nothing short of a festive splash of absolute perfection so far. First time to this blog? If so, you’ve popped in at the right time! Now through Christmas day I’ve got some exceedingly talented authors and a super creative jewelry artist who will be joining me here at A Writer’s Mind. Each and every one will be leaving a little something beneath this blog's Christmas Tree. What does that mean? Simple. There will be a contest held to give away whatever they donate!

This week I’m so thrilled to welcome an author who is definitively a cut above the rest when it comes to Irish and Norse romance. I ‘met’ Renee Vincent earlier this year at Coffee Time Romance and knew instantly that I would someday consider her a friend. I wasn’t wrong! Not only is she an amazing writer, but a wonderful person. Author of the Emerald Isle Trilogy, Renee is a true talent. No doubt about it, she had to be part of my Christmas blog event. Invitation sent, she responded with an enthusiastic, “Yes!” and so here we are.

Renee wanted to do things a little differently and skip the interview. Totally works for me! Besides, wait until you read what she has to say about what she wants under her Christmas tree. *Wide smile* And you certainly won't be dissapointed by all the goodies she’s put under this blog’s tree. Too gracious by half. Thank you Renee!

So now I give you Renee Vincent. What every woman wants under her tree...from her lips to my blog…

"Hm…well, I’m not certain what every woman wants, but I do know what I want. I want Gerard Butler dressed in nothing but his crimson cape and cod piece from 300 (six-pack abs included of course) singing to me in his beautiful Phantom of the Opera baritone voice, “I am your angel of good news” while holding a rolled newspaper in his hand which claims Renee Vincent is the next New York Times Best Selling Author!

What? That doesn’t count?

Oh, you mean realistically. My apologies Sky. I thought we were delving into the aspects of a fantasy world, considering Christmas is the season for magic and dreams coming true.

Ok, so realistically…I want a Kindle this year under my tree. Yes, that’s right, Renee Vincent, who swore to only read from paper and ink, is now looking toward the horizons of digital books. What convinced me? I actually don’t know the answer to that. But I do think it’s because there are a lot of e-books I’ve been dying to read recently and can’t unless they go to print. I’m not that patient and I refuse to read off of a computer screen at my desk. I still like the notion of curling up on the couch with a warm blanket, a cup of piping hot coffee, and a great read without having to be chained to my writing desk and a laptop. And with a Kindle, I believe I can still divulge my reading desires without having to compromise comfort.

Plus, I can keep the Kindle in my purse and pull it out during those surprise moments when the kids are taking too long picking out their books at the library, or the quick run-in-and-run-out intention at the dentist becomes a please-make-yourself-comfortable-in-the-waiting room kind of afternoon. Most times, I forget to bring my book along and then have to resort to reading the outdated Redbook and Highlights magazines.

And I’m not going to mention that having a Kindle will save me money on book costs. Sure, e-books are drastically cheaper than print books, but I know having a Kindle will not save me money at all…it will just make me want to splurge on more e-books, thus tilting the scales the other way.

But I can argue convenience. I like the direction the wave of technology has flowed—giving us instant gratification at the click of a button. And not having to pay higher shipping costs to get it.

And on that note, I would like someone to invent a button I can click on to get my dream hero, Gerard Butler, instantaneously under my Christmas tree, darnit! Is that really too much to ask?

*sees Sky crossing her arms and rolling her eyes* Fine. I’ll settle for a Kindle.

So what would you like under your Christmas tree? And let’s make this more interesting with a two part question. Give us both your fantasy wish and your realistic one. Come on…let’s have some fun! And if you do, I’ll send one lucky commenter autographed copies of both Ræliksen and Mac Liam as well as a Celtic bracelet hand-made by Kristy's Kreations! How’s that for a great Christmas gift?"

Sky here! OMG, still laughing away. You’re too funny, Renee. Gotta tell ya, I bought a Kindle this year and LOVE IT!!! I know, I know, not what you want to hear not owning one yet but wow, it was worth the cost. It fits nicely in my purse (not the hand held sort ladies- over the shoulder type) and super handy during those appointments. Mine’s already gone on an airplane. No problem with security and I could even access Amazon under 10,000 ft. *winks* Aye, no worries, you can still read away when you’re at 30,000 ft. Internet access however, a little tricky.

The movie 300 is to this day one of my all time favorites and the man himself, it's mouth-watering hero, Gerard...*Sighs* Oh yeah...the dramatic *swoon* as well. How could I not? Bloody Scotsman has me by the....anyways...

I can't help myself, have to share a little about each of the books Renee is so graciously giving away!

Raeliksin (Book I Emerald Isle Trilogy)...

Mara, the daughter of an Irish clansman, was raised to believe the men of the North are heathens - murderous pagans without a moral bone in their bodies. Despite warnings of the Northmen's raids, and the growing threat of another incursion, Mara is continually drawn to her favorite place - the River Shannon.

Dægan Ræliksen, a wealthy chieftain from Norway's frozen fjords, secretly discovers Mara at the water's edge. He is charmed by her beauty and sensuous grace. As the days pass, his contentment with simply watching her grows thin. He can no longer deny his unabated desire for the young maiden. His search for a wife has ended.

However, Mara and Dægan come face-to-face in a time when Ireland is in turmoil - when every Irishman is being called up to fight against the Nordic foreigners. In these times of upheaval, how can Dægan make peace with Mara's father and acquire the woman he treasures? Furthermore, can Mara move past her fears and find the noble man within the savage? Read an excerpt here. Watch a book trailer for this novel on YouTube.

Mac Liam (Book II Emerland Isle Trilogy)

A tortured soul…. Breandán Mac Liam, the strapping young hunter from Ireland’s lush forests, is in love with Mara, an ineligible beautiful princess. For seven long years, he has been vividly haunted by her memory, taunted by the throes of his heartache. And not even the thought of her marriage to a Northman can extinguish the fierce, burning desire running rampant through his soul.

An innocent heart…. Mara, the spirited Connacht princess, has no idea she is the object of the Irishman’s longing. She is living out her days on Inis Mór, raising a troubled son and trying to endure the cruel loneliness that afflicts her heart.

A deadly secret…. Ordered by the king on his deathbed, Breandán must return to Mara and bring her through the perilous lands of Connacht to fulfill her father’s last dying wish. But as their worlds collide, Breandán not only finds himself wrapped in the arms of Mara’s embrace, but thrown into a struggle to defend his honor.

With Mara caught between the family she loves and the father she knows, can Breandán uncover the mystery of her past and still protect her from a secret that threatens them all? Read an excerpt here.

Hi Sky and Renee,
Renee, I loved the interviews you did with Brendan on the blogs. I love 300. God , he looked amazing in that.
I wish I could find every Highlander I've read about lately under my tree in kilts of course and all wanting to be there as well lolol Thank goodness for dreaming :)
In real life I'd probably find a kilt without anyone in it. lol
But I do wish to find lots of books or GC's for more books. They are my addiction next to Highlanders in kilts.I am a GFC follower under Lucky47

Love these Christmas wishes, ladies!!! And particularly your fantasy wishes.

If they come true, can I pay you both a visit? Love those Highlanders in kilts!!!

Good luck Stacey and Carol! You gals are great!

Oh what do I want under the christmas tree!

Fantasy: I would love a kindle or nook. I can't get one for a couple of months but I would have loved one under the tree.

Reality: Anything to do with books. That is what I told everyone this year, just get me a gc or something so I can buy some books. Since hubby got laid off I haven't bought all the books I really really want. So GC would go a very long way.

I would love to have your books under the tree oh and the braclet would be nice too ;0)

Thanks for the chance to win!

You'd be proud of me, Renee - I saw "300" this weekend and drooled over Gerard the entire time. :)

Fantasy Christmas: A billion bucks
Real Christmas: A billion bucks (a girl can dream, right??) :)

This is my first visit to your blog, I love it.

Well, it seems Mr. Butler is quite taken for under the tree, so let me think. Oh, yes, I'm enraptured over the Hispanic star, Eduardo Yanez, so I'll be quite happy for Santa to drop him off under my tree this year.

And realistically? Well, I'm one who'd love a Kindle as well, or maybe a Nook.

Again, enjoyed the blog and getting to drool over Gerard.

C. Zampa said...

Oh, no!
I forgot. How can you send Eduardo if I don't supply my email address? LOl...

my fantasy would be to have David James Elliott(Cdr Harmon 'Harm' Rabb Jnr) from the TV series JAG sitting beside my tree in full uniform(yes, ladies, there is always time for less after). I love him in uniform.

my practical wish is for a butterfly ornament shaped like a globe but made of metal butterflies connected but there are some spaces in between.

Thanks ladies for some fun.

I know this will amuse you, Renee, but I did not relize that it was Gerard Butler playing the part of the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera but I DID think he was wonderful and handsome--at least half his face was.
I love my Sony E-Book reader so I hope you get that Kindle you want so badly.
My fantasy Christmas wish:
That relationships were eternal--both romantic ones and friendships.
My realistic Christmas wish: That my Christmas will be a happy one in spite of everything.

Hi, Renee.
I haven't seen '300' yet and never even heard of Gerard Whats-his-name. But I do think I'm finally ready for a Kindle also.
Just waiting for the technology war to settle on which format will be the winner. Don't want to go back to another Betamax debacle.
Like you, I've resisted a 'reader' because I love books. Thirty years in the library profession was begun because of my devotion to print. I still prefer a bound volume, but if some novels are available only in e-form, then I guess I'd better climb on board.

Fantasy: To be in Florida or a sunny beach with my soul mate and our family:) And my own laptop...

Real: A new dryer, money to buy e-books, and safe traveling conditions! And chocolate; plenty of my favorite Christmas candy, Old Fashioned Chocolate Creme Drops:)

I already know I'm getting a new camera, so I can capture memories again, without having to borrow the daughter's:)

C.Zampa: Ooh..I'm going to have to check out Eduardo. He might make a fabulous WMU Wednesday feature on my blog. And thanks for stopping by. So nice to meet you.

Sarah:OH YES GB made a spectacular (if not perfect) Phantom of the Opera!! I'm just glad I was able to enlighten you with who actually played the part.
Thanks for sharing your Christmas wishes hon. Good luck to you!

Jeff:haha after meeting you at the booksigning, no I do not think you'd know who GB is or would you watch the movie 300. But wow, it is nice to see you here. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your wishes. Hope you get the ereader you want. Let me know if you ever decide on which one.
Good luck to you!

Hmm...Jeff...did you just slide in here and not share your fantasy wish? You better come back and do it, sailor! haha

Fantastic interview, Renee. Great questions.
Hmmm, I may have to see 300.

Re: the Kindle: I was gifted with one for judging the Amazon Breakthrough contest two years ago. For months I didn't use it, but now I take it with me everywhere. I love my Kindle (hint: you can go to the gym, work out on the elliptical and...read!)

Elena Gray said...

I would love to have Alex O'Loughlin under my tree. Yummy!! But my realistic one is a Kindle too. I'm currently reading Raeliksen on my Mac and I agree that it would be much easier to have a hand held version that I could curl up with! Speaking of Raeliksen, I absolutely love this story and can't wait to start Mac Liam! Renee, I am so glad that I found you!! Whoever wins this contest (keeping my fingers crossed) will be in for a treat! I fell in love with the characters. I would love to win the autographed copies, so I can share this with my mom and keep the bracelet for myself! ;) Thanks Renee!!

Renee Vincent said...

Suzanne: You are such a doll for stopping by! Thanks so much for sharing your Kindle story. I don't work out, but it's nice to know I could still read if I ever decided to. hahah

Cindy L: Oh you are so awesome. Thanks for the little promo plug there, dear!
And on the subject of Alex O'Loughlin....hubba hubba! I love that guy too! He makes Hawaii 5-O OH SO GOOD!!!!!

Hmm...I smell a WMU Wednesday feature here too!!
Good luck to you!

Hi First time here. Love the questions, They'll be fun to answer. Thanks for the contest!!

I'm hopefully realistically speaking getting a new refrigerator.

My wish... oh wow, there's so many possibilities. I have a wonderful man but I still have the biggest crush of Luke Perry from the original 90210 so I'd love one night with him!! I'd also like to be able to wrap up my old size four jeans put them under the tree and wake up Christmas morning fitting back into them. lol
Or even better, How about a billion dollars under my tree, Then I could probably pay for help to get back into those 4's and might even be able to meet Luke who hopefully couldn't resist me. lol

Thanks that was fun!!

Wow - tough question!!! Fantasy? I would love a round trip ticket of a tour of medieval Europe. But a realistic one? I'm just hoping for some good crafting supplies and maybe a hot meal that I can eat by myself, without a child or four eating it first. :)

My "practical" gift would be a new crock-pot with the timer feature. The "Fantasy" gift would be the very HOT ski-bum that I met up at Whistler, when I was up there for a girls weekend! Y-U-M!!

Gerard Butler is good and I loved 300 but under my tree my fantasy gift would be Ryan Kelly of Celtic Thunder. Realistically a trip to Disney World, which I know I'm getting. What fun!

Christine:So glad you are here! Meeting new readers is always a treat for me. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

And I loved your wishes...real and fantasy. When my DH was younger (college years) people used to say he looked like Luke Perry! Not so much anymore now that he has acquired some meat on his bones. hee hee
Good luck to you!

Melissa Pickering: Darlin, if you ever get that fantasy wish of traveling Medieval Europe, I hope you realize I'm tagging along with you. So if your suitcase feels a little heavy, don't fret. It's just me stowing away.
Good luck and thanks for participating!

Jackie C: Oooh....he's sounds lovely. I could use a HOT ski-bum right now in this weather. I bet you girls had a blast!
Thanks for sharing.

She: I have to say, I feel a little uneasy calling you "She". haha but I'm going with it! I actually got a kick out of seeing "She said...." on the blogger comments. Very cute!
Anyway, Celtic Thunder is very cool! They sing so beautifully. I've got my fingers crossed on you gaining Ryan Kelly under your tree dear. Let me know if you do and I want pics, you hear? hahah

Stephanie: Oh good choice. Johnny Depp! I'd like to find him under my tree....complete in his pirate garb. Heck, while we're at it, let's include Orlando Bloom too and we can have a double pirate date. Sound good?

Jessica: Oh GB would make a fine knight in shining armor. But you'd have to fight me for him. He's one man I don't like to share. hahaha
Good luck to you!

OK Renee, I am chomping at the bit to read MacLiam!!! I just can't wait to get my hands on that book.

My realistic Christmas gift would be to have my hubby working at home and NOT travelling for work anymore. I have been handling the house and 4 boys for 2 1/2 years and I need him home!!!
My fantasy would be a house in Hawaii where I could go when this cold KY weather is getting me down.

BTW, my hubby loves his kindle. Takes it with him where ever he goes. And there are TONS of free books to load on it too.

My Christmas Fantasy Wish would be to have a Ræliksen and Inis Mór Friends Christmas.

Dægan and I have decided to live in my time instead of living on Inis Mór 916 AD. We do go back and visit (using the Ræliksen Time Travel Magik) about 3 or 4 times a month to see Tait,Ottar and all our friends...they love the gifts we bring. The Ræliksen Time Travel Magik allows us to let a few friends travel to see us 7 times a year.

Dægan and I are happily married living in Malibu. I have my own cooking show on the Food Network, Mara's Irish Cuisine, and Dægan teaches Medieval History at UCLA...he loves his job. Dægan has traded in his longboat for a black Hummer...we do keep a yacht at Marina Del Ray and you can usually find us sailing on it every weekend.

We have the best neighbors. On our left lives Eirik and his family and on our right is Gustaf...he's still single and looking...and Nevan and mom live on the other side of Gustaf...I think Rælik and Nanna are gonna buy the house that just went up for sale a few houses down the beach.

We always celebrate Christmas at my house. I do all the cooking...because I love it and everyone loves my food. All of our friends from Inis Mór will be with us this year. I just know this is going to be the best Christmas of all time. I am so blessed.
Merry Christmas everyone.

And since it's Christmas I will say a prayer for Domaldr's soul. He's still in San Quentin prison.

My realistic Christmas wish:
Autographed copies of both Ræliksen and Mac Liam as well as a Celtic bracelet hand-made by Krist'y's Kreations and a Nook or Kindle.

Hello Sky, I see that your Scottish Clan is Brown...mine is Gunn. I thinks it's pretty cool since I'm such a Viking lover that my Gunn Clan are descended from the Vikings.

Gunn History
The Norse word gunnr means war. Living between Caithness and Sutherland, the Gunns were descended from the Norsemen, some think possibly from Olaf the Black himself, and their name foretold their destiny.

Love you, babe!

HarlieReader: Thanks for visiting with me today and sharing your wish for Christmas. Crossing my fingers for you.

Viking Princess: OMG! You are a darn hoot! I was laughing so hard at your fantasy wish (or should I say, your fantasy life)I called my DH in and said, "YOU have got to hear this!"
And he agreed that your fantasy wish completely blew mine out of the water! I love it!
Good luck to you!

Sky: Hey! So glad you made it! And yes, we are having a ball here this week...these fantasy wishes are the best!

Aye, Viking Princess, I've come across your clan in my research. Fascinating background! My hubby's clan decends from Vikings as well so I'm always telling my 'tall for his age' 5 year old son...you've Viking blood in you! He was particularly thrilled about it when we watched, How To Train Your Dragon. Cute movie! ;)

Speaking of my hubby...Renee, I'm partly late because he bought me a new laptop for Christmas & gave it to me early. WOW, did it cheer me up!!! So now I'm trying to transfer everything...yada, yada, yada. Had no idea how much stuff I'd compacted into my little ol' faithful previous laptop!

I love everything Phantom. Although I'm not so enamored of Gerard Butler.

Well since Renee has dibbs on Gerard I guess I will have to settle for uhm, Richard Armitage, or hmmmm, Clive Owen! Both would be nice, but tis the season NOT to be greedy!!!

The best present EVER would be an all expenses paid trip to SCOTLAND or IRELAND, and since I can access Amazon from the plane, a kindle to go along with me, OR print copies of Mac Liam and Raeliksen!!!!

Wonderful event ladies!! The bracelet is gorgeous!!!

Beth: Darlin....I appreciate your honesty, but let's not discuss how you are not so enamored by GB. Around here, that is considered blasphemy and to even utter those words is taboo. haha

But I have to agree with you about books....I'd rather have my good ol' print books in hand. But I'm giving in to temptation.
Good luck to you and thanks for visiting.

Chicks of Characterization: (Andrea) Oh yes, I could so go with Clive Owen. He was so yummy in King Arther. Love when he speaks with his accent and doesn't try to hide it under a fake American one.
And thank you so much for coming. BTW, your wishes made me smile tremendously!

Brenda: Oh My Goodness dear! You broke your neck?! That is horrible! My heart goes out to you, darlin. You have no idea how touched and flattered I am that you would have the strength and gumption to come here and visit with me - especially after what you've gone through. Thank you! A million thank yous to you.
You are in my prayers and I pray that everything will work out - no matter what you decide treatment wise.

BJ: Oh yes, like the Staples "easy button"! I could so use one of those too...but then my DH would wonder who all the Vikings and Highlanders were in his house. That would be difficult to explain...
haha
Good luck to you!

My goodness these are great fantasy wishes!

As to the real wish, I've hinted broadly for a charm bracelet with charms to represent each of the books I have under contract- one is out already and two are coming out in 2011. I thought that would be fun to commemorate my stories.

And I know what you mean about his accent...that was the first thing that caught my attention back in the day when I watched Beowulf and Grendel - now I owe every movie he's made and have seen every interview or promo video of him since. Yes, I'm obsessed with the man, but who can blame me?
Thanks for stopping by and enjoying my post. It was a lot of fun writing it up.

Jillian:What a very unique wish! If you do get those charms for your bracelet you should post a pic of it....I know I'd love to see it.
Best of luck in your career and thanks for visiting with me.

Jasmine:Oh, getting whisked off to Italy would be fabulous! Oh what a romantic trip that would be. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your Christmas wishes with me. Good luck in the giveaway!

I'm too late I think, but as soon as I read the title for what I wanted, it's so funny, my first thought was Gerard Butler. A lot of women could be killed fighting over him. For real a great gift would be a Kindle or a Nook color or a $100.00 gc to Borders.

Owning a piece of celtic jewelry is elegant, unique, and classic. Each piece has its own meaning and symbolism that originates from Ireland, which is why it is a great to have in anyone's jewelry collection.
